Threatening or obscene phone calls
The receipt of a threatening or obscene phone call can be at best alarming, and at worst, a serious incident which prevents a person from conducting their normal business. The Security and Traffic Section understands the importance of dealing with these matters in a sensitive way and treats all unwanted phone calls with the utmost seriousness. If you have received an obscene or threatening phone call it is important to gain as much information about the call and the caller to assist us and the Police in an investigation.
Checklist
- Time and date of all calls ( if appropriate)
- Does it sound like a mobile phone or a land line?
- What is the nature of the call?
- If the call has been recorded on an answering machine do not erase it until the Security and Traffic Section has had time to assess it
- Is the person aggressive?
- Does the person sound as though they are under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance?
- Approximate age
- Educational standard ( i.e. does the person use academic type language)
- Does the person have an accent?
- Any other information that might be of interest
