Emergency Warden (Floor Wardens)

University Emergency Wardens play an essential role within the University's emergency plan specifically in relation to our initial response to emergencies, and emergency evacuation of potentially large numbers of people. The Emergency Warden, or Floor Warden plays a key roll in evacuating a building and responding to different emergencies.

This course provides the background information, roles and responsibilities, procedures and information about the types of emergencies that may occur in their building or around the University.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this training session, the learner will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose of the Warden System (ECO) and describe the structure
  • Identify common building safety equipment
  • Identify and describe different types of emergency incidents
  • Explain elements of human behaviour in emergencies
  • Identify different emergency services organisations
  • Identify which University resources may respond to assist you
  • Explain liability issues with emergency control organisations

Pre-Requisites

None.

Audience

This course is available to all University Wardens (BEC and Floor Wardens).

Duration

2.5 hours (allow for 15 minutes overtime)

What to Bring

  • Pen and pencil to take notes.
  • Bring your Warden helmet if it needs new helmet stickers.

Assessment

At the conclusion of the training course there will be a simple two page multiple choice answer quiz to assess how well you have understood the information presented. The results remain confidential.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of this course you will be issued a "Certificate of Attendance" which will be sent via internal mail.
