Building Emergency Controller Training

University Emergency Wardens play an essential role within the University's emergency plan specifically in relation to our initial response to emergencies, and emergency evacuation of potentially large numbers of people. The Building Emergency Controller (BEC), is the coordinator for emergencies and evacuations in their designated building.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and describe the building safety equipment and evacuation systems in your building
  • Discussion session covering:
    • number of floor wardens, selection, task allocation, etc.
    • Warden and evacuation equipment
    • evacuation hazards in your building
    • evacuation procedures
    • after hours issues
    • dealing with the emergency services
    • conducting evacuation drills
    • BEC duties during an emergency
  • Overview of the "BEC Manual"

Pre-Requisites

Emergency Warden training course.

Audience

This course is available to all University BEC Wardens.

Duration

2 hours (may be quicker for smaller less complex buildings)

What to Bring

  • Pen or pencil to take notes.

Venue

Onsite in your building. Will require a meeting room for a discussion during the training course.

Certificate

Upon successful completion of this course you will be issued a "Certificate of Attendance" which will be sent via internal mail.
