Evacuation Maps

All buildings at the University of Melbourne should have some form of floor plan evacuation map or each level. These evacuation maps should show the emergency exits, list the assembly area and highlight the safe evacuation routes out of the building.

Floor Plan Evacuation Maps

We have a standard design for these maps that the Property and Campus Services - Asset Data Unit design and supply for us all. These maps have detailed floor plans with safe evacuation routes shown in green arrows, emergency EXIT's labeled, the primary assembly area listed, and any site specific information. Some basic evacuation procedures are also mentioned.

Not all entry and exit doors, stairs and passage-ways in a building are deemed safe during and evacuation, especially during a fire emergency. The safe evacuation routes will guide people to fire stairs or an EXIT that will lead out of the building to safety. It is important that all building occupants know the safe ways to exit the building.

Over Head Projector - Lecture Theatre Maps

In a similar style to the wall mounted floor plan, evacuation maps, we also have evacuation maps for individual lecture rooms that can be placed onto your over-head projector. These maps are colour and copied onto a OH transperancy. The presenter then places the OHT evacuation map onto the projector as students fill the room. This process reminds all students where to go in the event of an emergency.
