About
An emergency is an actual or imminent event that requires an immediate
response from either internal or external resources.
The University of Melbourne is committed to providing a framework for
emergency management in order to respond to the following priorities
in the event of an emergency:
- To Save Lives
- To Protect Property and Prevent Harm to the Environment
- To Restore Essential University Infrastructure
- To Restore Academic and Administrative Functions
It is for this reason that the University has developed an Emergency
Management Plan. The Emergency Management Plan sets out the management
protocols that will control and coordinate emergency response. The University
recognises that effective planning must be flexible, designed to meet
all types of emergencies and must include the key planning issues of
preparedness, response and recovery.
Campus Operations Group
The Campus Operations Group (COG) is a group within the Property and Campus Services. The COG has the role of managing the physical
resources and assets of the University on a day-to-day basis to a standard
that provides a safe, efficient and secure environment for the achievement
of the University’s teaching, research and administrative objectives.
The Section is responsible for:
- Management of the University’s security, traffic and parking
operations on a 24 hour, seven day a week basis.
- Provision of training and equipment for the Emergency Control Organisations
throughout the University.
- Emergency Management and Emergency Response planning.
Our University Security Officers respond to emergencies across the
campuses assisting with evacuations and traffic/crowd control. After
hours, our Security Officers act as Wardens and evacuate buildings where
possible before the emergency services arrive. University Security Officers
maintain our 24 hour a day Security and Emergency Control Room at Gate
4 on the Parkville Campus. In an Emergency, when you ring 8344 6666
or x46666 you will speak to one of these Officers.
